Opinion | This "whataboutism" concept makes no sense | Richard Ransom

Local 24 News Anchor Richard Ransom discusses in his Ransom Note about City Council voted to investigate if any city employee was involved in the Capitol siege.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — In tonight’s Ransom Note: “whataboutism”.

If you haven’t heard the term, you will.

Because it’s happening a lot.

It’s when you try to deflect one side’s argument by accusing it of hypocrisy, except you don’t ever directly disprove the argument.

Best example lately? Instead of addressing the Capitol insurrection directly, people ask well “what about” the other protests this summer?

Tonight, Memphis City Council voted to investigate if any city employee was involved in the Capitol siege if evidence is provided.

But only Councilman Worth Morgan voted no asking “what about” all riots.

Why just the US Capitol riot?

Really Mr. Morgan?

Hundreds of white supremacistsanti-Semitic militia members stormed the Capitol chanting they want to kill members of Congress, hang the Vice President, and really steal an election. And you think it’s the same thing as BLM protests?

Trust me, if any city worker was involved in the violence, the FBI will find them.

So if Morgan had objected to the measure because it was unnecessary political pandering, I’d respect that.

But “whataboutism” is pretty lame.
