MEMPHIS, Tenn — Cory Smith is a meteorologist for ABC24 and CW30. He joined the team in December, 2023.
Cory spent the last two years at WLTX, our sister station in Columbia, South Carolina.
Before living in South Carolina, he spent time at stations in Lafayette, Louisiana, and Parkersburg, West Virginia.
He's originally from Tampa, where he says living through the hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005 - in which seven major hurricanes, including Hurricane Katrina, impacted his home state in two years - sparked his passion for covering the weather.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a meteorology degree.
During his career, he has covered multiple major hurricane landfalls and several impactful tornadic events.
Cory has made teaching viewers about weather, science, and space as well as reporting on climate change a top priority. He is eager to share his love of weather with those in the Mid-South.
Outside of work, Cory enjoys watching sports including the Tampa Bay Rays, Carolina Panthers, and the Charlotte 49ers. He also loves to shoot photography and cannot wait to see all of the fun and exciting things Memphis has to offer.
