Kit Thomas

Meteorologist
Credit: ABC24

Kit Thomas is a Meteorologist from North Carolina, having grown up around Charlotte, where he experienced all sorts of fascinating weather events. From seeing ice storms force trees to bow, to hearing of legendary hurricanes as far inland as Charlotte, there was so much to learn about why the weather happened as it did.

Kit went to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to obtain his B.S. of Meteorology. He was even classmates with one of our other team members, Meteorologist Cory Smith! Kit interned at a station in Charlotte, NC and gained first-hand experience of what TV News was like and it solidified his desire to work in the broadcast community.

Kit has worked locally in the Quad Cities of Illinois & Iowa, Hastings, Nebraska, and nationally in Denver, Colorado. In the Midwest and Plains, Kit got to witness firsthand severe weather in all its power, and blizzards with blistering cold temperatures. Working on a national platform at WeatherNation, he learned about many local climates and broadcast several hurricanes, some during landfall.

At his first job, he met who would become his husband, Jordan. Jordan was a music teacher at a high school and moved with him to Nebraska. It was there that Kit came out as bisexual, learning to take pride in himself and sharing life with the person he chose, regardless of gender. In Colorado, they got engaged in October 2021 in the fall leaves of the Rocky Mountains. They got married on Dec 31, 2022. They have a third member of their family, a husky-collie mix named Kaner. He’s a loveable dog with an attitude, and so much fur!!

Kit enjoys biking, hiking, backpacking, fencing, and most recently, gardening. His favorite nightlife activity is going out for karaoke! Kit is also a gamer, playing mostly Minecraft and Zelda games, but enjoys a wider variety as well. He’s even picked up editing videos for a YouTube let’s-play series!

You can follow Kit on social media @KitThomasWX, and he always enjoys getting to meet new people! If you see him, say hi! Just be warned, he does talk about weather for a living, so you may get more than you bargained for!
