Dr. Rolando Toyos from Toyos Clinic answers the question:
What can LASIK do for you?
If you want to get rid of your contacts or glasses, you have laser surgery. Usually, LASIK is for patients who are 18 to about 40, maybe 45. I had LASIK over 20 years ago, so it's been around for a long time.
We use a laser to reshape the front part of the eye so that you can get rid of your glasses and contacts. What's amazing is the technology has gotten better and better, so patients' vision has gotten sharper and sharper. But I think the biggest advance in LASIK is SMILE. And what SMILE is, it's basically, small incision LASIK. Before, when a patient would have LASIK, they would have to wait a week to a month to even longer before they could get into the pool or wear makeup or work out. But now with small incision LASIK, I can do the laser procedure, and the next day, you can go swimming or you can wear makeup.
I actually did a professional soccer player just a few weeks ago, and essentially, he had his SMILE LASIK procedure, small incision, and then the very next day, he played in a game.
