MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry is a local nonprofit that provides free diapers, formula, period products, adult diapers and other essentials for families in need who live in Memphis and surrounding areas.
Cori Smith, the founder and executive director, started the organization in 2014.
“I started Sweet Cheeks Diaper Ministry because I personally had a need for it when I was pregnant with my daughter, and 10 years ago, there was no organization in our city or in the area that could assist with what I needed most, which was diapers,” she said.
“I could get formula, I could get assistance with rent or clothing, but the one item that I desperately needed was diapers. So, once I started back working and I got on my feet, I decided no family should ever have to worry about how to provide diapers for their family.”
Sweet Cheeks serves 300-500 families every month. The organization is one of two Memphis affiliates of the National Diaper Bank Network.
“We still have to turn some families away because we run out of diapers,” Smith said.
After volunteers collect and package the supplies, Sweet Cheeks hosts a monthly diaper giveaway at the organization's warehouse.
“We spend all month getting the diapers, wrapping, and preparing them for our distribution, which is happening the third or fourth Saturday of each month, and all families have to do is just drive up.”
