MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In an effort to promote well-being for the community, Memphis Councilwoman Jana Swearengen-Washington is partnering with The Neighborhood Hero Group to offer free back-to-school haircuts.

Students who may not have easy access to haircuts are invited to the next event on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024. It runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Glenview Community Center. That’s at 1141 S. Barksdale St.

The organizers said the goal is “to ensure that every student starts the school year with confidence and style."

It's free and open to all students, and children ages 18 and under are the priority.

“A fresh haircut can significantly boost a student's self-esteem and confidence,” said Councilwoman Swearengen-Washington. “We want every student to walk into school feeling proud and ready to tackle the new school year.”
