MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Are you ready for some “Miracles in Memphis?” The annual event is coming up this weekend. As Local 24 News anchor Katina Rankin tells us, it’s local good news.
“Come as you are. Everyone come. No one will be turned down. There’s plenty of items to give away and to share with one another,” said Greater Community Temple’s Bishop Brandon Porter.
Bishop Porter is gearing up for “Miracles in Memphis.” It’s where Memphians can get all sorts of items for free.
“We’re gonna be giving away many items such as food, groceries, clothing. We’re gonna giveaway school supplies. There’ll be gas cards given away as well. Hundreds of gas cards and, of course, haircuts. And, it’s gonna be screenings, appliances,” said Porter.
“Miracles in Memphis” giveaway began 10 years ago.
“I’m a pastor, so I’m around people all the time. And, I see the need and hear the need and we know the need,” said Porter. “That’s what ministry is: finding a need and meeting it. So, whoever you are, doesn’t matter your race, creed, or color, we’re touching and loving everybody just like Jesus would want us to do.”
And while mom and dad get their needs met, there will be fun activities for the kiddos.
“There’s also bouncers and fun games for the kids,” said Porter.
This all takes place, Saturday, October 19, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Greater Community Temple’s north location at 924 North Dunlap at the corner of Chelsea.
“It is our opportunity to love our neighbors by meeting their needs,” said Porter.
Tom Lister, Jr, who played “Deebo” in the movie “Friday” will be at Saturday’s event.
