MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A local nonprofit says we should all “love our hive.” Local 24 News Weeknight Anchor Katina Rankin shows us how Bee 901 Co. giving back to the community is sweeter than honey. It’s local good news.
Ever heard the phrase, “Busy as a bee”?
“I think one bee only creates a twelfth of a teaspoon ofhoney in her entire lifetime,” said Bee 901 Creative Director andBeekeeper Kevin Woods.
Kevin Woods is the creative director and beekeeper for Bee 901Co. It’s a nonprofit based here in the Bluff City.
“If we train our minds to think like bees, we can help eachother out and make Memphis just a little bit better,” said Woods.
Woods says because Memphis is our home – our hive – we should beinspired to give back to people who need help in the 901. So for everybottle of honey you purchase from the nonprofit’s company, 100% of the proceedsbenefit Memphians in need, like residents of King’s Daughters and Sons Home ofBartlett.
“We decided to sell a whole bunch of honey, and we gave himthe money to buy a custom-made wheelchair. And he looks a lot morecomfortable,” said Woods.
“This allows our patients a little more mobility. They areable to walk around, and they feel safer,” said King’s Daughters and SonsHome of Bartlett Physical Therapist Assistant Angela Allen.
And the nonprofit did not stop there. They also donated over $10,000to the home.
“This goes above and beyond and allows us to serve whateverthings we need to help them in their rehabilitation or in their day-to-dayliving,” said King’s Daughters and Sons Home of BartlettBoard of Director Member Gayle Templeton.
“If we can all just view Memphis or the 901-area code as likea beehive then we all have our unique part,” said Woods. “If weall work together, we can create something big.”
