MEMPHIS, Tenn. — West Tennessee’s first Buc-ee’s truck stop is a step closer to reality.
Crews broke ground on the new site in Fayette County on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024. The Gallaway Buc-ee's will be located off I-40 at U.S. Highway 196, northeast of Memphis.
The travel center superstore is known for its clean restrooms, food, and lots of merchandise. This store will be a 74,000 square-foot building with 120 gas pumps and more than 70 restrooms.
It's expected to bring 225 jobs to the area. According to an April social media post from Tennessee State Senator Page Walley, starting wages for Buc-ee’s employees run $17-$19 per hour plus benefits.
Many residents are excited and happy to have a Buc-ee’s so close to home.
"It's been my prayer since I met the Buc-ee in 2021 in Royse City, Texas, that we would have a Buc-ee’s, and I am thankful they came to our community,” said resident Sharon Barnes. “I am glad that they're going to bring some tax dollars to our community, will help the education in the community, I'm praying."
This will be the first Greater Memphis-area Buc-ee's and is slated to open in 2026. Currently, Buc-ee’s has two locations in Tennessee, both in the eastern part of the state.
Buc-ee’s also recently announced plans to open a second Mid-South store in West Memphis, Arkansas.
