MEMPHIS, Tennessee — One of Memphis' longest running and beloved companies is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Amro Music has served as a cultural staple in the Mid-South since 1921. To recognize this milestone, the store’s owners held an event Wednesday to mark the occasion.
The ceremony included a proclamation from Shelby County and the unveiling of a 9-foot Steinway and Sons piano, vinyl-wrapped with the unique, custom-made design. The piano will be on display in the store for the next month. The business has remained with the Averwater family for over four generations.
“The kind of longevity that we celebrate today speaks to the strength and resilience of this family. We have four generations of music business entrepreneurs. We know that across a century, they have had ups and downs, there have been fits and starts, there have been successes and failures. But, they have persisted because they love music, and they love this community. They have succeeded and they are still going strong,” said Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris.
