DoorDash now accepting SNAP benefits for grocery deliveries

The goal is to reduce food insecurity and broaden access to nutritious foods.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — DoorDash is now accepting SNAP benefits as payment at over 15,000 grocery stores.

Cheryl Young, a spokesperson for the delivery company, said the program has seen major success since it started in June 2023. Since then, 1.8 million customers have added their EBT cards to their account.

"Overall, we've heard how critical the service is," said Young. "We're fulfilling the need that our customers are looking for."

One in five people in Shelby County are food insecure and almost 179,000 receive food stamps.

The program helps make food more accessible by providing more options for people in food deserts and people who may not have reliable transportation.

"The #1 reason they're going to DoorDash to get groceries delivered using SNAP is because they don't have transportation to the grocery store."

You can add your benefits to your account by just adding your EBT card like a credit card. The app then helps you find all of the eligible stores and products.

"You can filter for stores that accept SNAP/EBT and you can see what's available to you once you put in your delivery address. Once you click on a store in particular, you can see all items that are tagged for SNAP eligible. So, really making the process for consumers as seamless as possible."

Here in the Mid-South, you can use snap benefits on DoorDash at Kroger, Aldi, Walgreens and more.

DoorDash said its working with the United States Department of Agriculture to continue expanding eligible grocery stores that can accept EBT payments on the app and on their website.
