MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Applications have opened for the 2024 Shelby County Summer Camp Grant Program.
The grants of $12,000 go to non-profit and non-LEA-based organizations to provide scholarships for Mid-South youth for summer camp programs. They are provided by the Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services.
The applications can be made until Thursday, March 28 at 4:30 p.m. at https://bit.ly/SCSummerCampGrantProgram.
This is the third year the grants are being offered. The program is meant to cover all expenses for at least ten children at every selected camp in Shelby County. Priority is given to groups who can show the scholarship recipients are from low-income families.
Here’s what is required of the groups for eligibility:
- Summer camp operators must show at least two years of successful operations.
- They must provide all necessary documentation to describe their summer program.
- They must verify current 501©3 status.
After review, the selected camp operators will be notified by a panel.
Once selected, they must submit a report with information on the kids who receive the free camp services by end-of-business on Friday, August 30.
"Summer camps are enriching experiences that create lifelong memories, “said Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris. “However, the high cost can be a barrier for some youth who need summer opportunities. The Summer Camp Grant Program offers Shelby County youth a free summer camp experience. Let's continue to support our community's next generation and invest in their future."
"Families should have access to summer programs for their children,” said Reginald Milton, Deputy Administrator of the Shelby County Office of Education and Youth Services. “The Summer Camp Grant Program will offer hundreds of kids a chance to learn new skills, bond with peers, and be in a safe environment."
