Graceland celebrates 40th anniversary

On June 7, 1982, a crowd of 3,000 fans visited Elvis' home in Memphis for the first time. 22 million guests have visited the mansion since.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Graceland is celebrating its 40th anniversary Tuesday. 

On June 7, 1982, a crowd of 3,000 fans visited Elvis' home in Memphis for the first time. 22 million guests have visited the mansion since.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, the tours included new exhibits that showcased pictures, personal artifacts and archived footage. 

The first 1,000 guests also got a 40th anniversary poster, featuring Graceland's original opening day flyer artwork.

40 years ago today, Graceland opened for public tours. Since then, Graceland has welcomed more than 22 million fans through its doors. Priscilla Presley and Graceland's President and CEO Jack Soden recently sat down to share some of their memories of opening Elvis' home to the world. #Graceland40
