WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Members of Memphis's Jewish community went to the nation's capital on Tuesday to take part in the "March for Israel" in Washington D.C.
With only five days' notice that the rally was even taking place, a group called Jewish Community Partners hoped to organize seven people from Memphis to attend. Instead, more than 180 people were able to go. They said that if ever there was a time to stand up for their faith, this was it.
Memphian Benjamin Lazarov called the day "historic" and said he left feeling "very proud."
Jaclyn Marshall, another Memphis resident, said the Jewish community in the city is "a little piece of the puzzle."
"To stand together with 300,000 Jews, non-Jews and supporters of Israel was remarkable," she said.
Both Lazarov and Marshall said support from the non-Jewish community is both crucial and meaningful in the fight against anti-Semitism.
