MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The countdown to freedom is on for most kids in the Memphis area as Spring Break gets closer.

Spring is the perfect time to get to know the story of the Bluff city, with a history deeply rooted in the civil rights movement.
Families can swing by the outside of the National Civil Rights Museum
You can get into the museum for free if you're a Tennessee resident after 3 p.m. on Mondays

For families wanting to get out and about during the Spring, there are several nice places to get some exercise:
Shelby Farms' own Woodland Discovery Playground
Tom Lee Park (which also rents gear like basketballs for free)
My Big Backyard at the Memphis Botanic Garden

The Brooks Museum of Art offers free admission on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and noon.
If you want to try out some activities with the kids, there are plenty of options come Spring Break:
Overton Park Conservancy Discovery Week (registration required)
Dixon Gallery and Gardens offers free admission through the end of 2024 - ask for a toddler toolkit while you're there.
Memphis Public Libraries have a series of free events. You can find those here.
Memphis Parks is holding its third annual Spring Break Mane series hosted by Play Your Park, a free three-day series with bounce houses, video games, free food for kids, jookin’ tutorials, a petting zoo, mini golf, and bubble play. Learn more here.
And while it is not free, a cost effective way to enjoy Memphis History is checking out the Main Street Trolley. Rides are only $1 a person!
