Shelby County voters wonder if there will ever be a female president

President-Elect Donald Trump has won against two female presidential candidates since 2016; now some voters want to know if the US will ever have a female president.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Following Vice-President Kamala Harris' loss to President-Elect Donald Trump, some Americans are wondering if there will there ever be a female president.

Some Shelby County voters such as Michael Barnett believe there will be a woman running the United States one day.

Barnett believes Kamala Harris was the better qualified candidate.

"I don't think we should have made so much emphasis on it being a woman, but yes, I'm ready, we're ready, and if we're not ready, we have a problem," Barnett said.

For President-Elect Donald Trump, this is his second time beating a female opponent in a Presidential Race.

When President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 race in July, some Shelby County voters such as Carolyn Clements believed there was more optimism that VP Harris would make history on Election Day.

"We know that there are more woman capable than two-thirds of the men who had held some of these offices, and Mexico's got a female president. Why America can't get over it, I don't know," Clements said.

According to Pew Research Center, 13 countries of the 193 United Nations members have women currently serving as their head of government or president.

Shelby County voter Rachel Belz believes it's not a matter of when but who would be the right female candidate to successfully win the White House. Belz said she believes former Presidential GOP candidate Nikki Haley would be a better fit to become the first female president of the United States.

"Look at Nikki Haley. She's smart, she's fierce, she speaks up, and she's not a vessel. She would've been a great candidate, but Trump beat her in the GOP primary," Belz said.

President-Elect Donald Trump's win solidifies the tradition of electing a man as president after more than 200 years.
