MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Frayser man Robert Taylor said his landlord is unresponsive to complaints about his single-family home, which code enforcement deemed unlivable.

Taylor said he signed a lease and moved into a home that looked nothing like what he saw online. It has all kinds of problems from faulty wiring to no hot water, heat or air conditioning.

“No heat in the house, no central air," Taylor said. “Filthy. It looked like somebody had ransacked it, like nobody had never been in this property. Feces all over the walls, all over the toilet, all the windows were pretty much busted out.”

Taylor said he spent at least $3,500 of his own money to make it livable for him and his two young boys.

“It’s an unfortunate situation, you know, and I’m not asking for a handout," Taylor said. "I’m trying to get this out here. I don’t want other families to go if he’s dealing with other tenants. And, you know, I would like it fixed.”

ABC24 attempted multiple times to call the property owner, but we did not receive an answer.
