MEMPHIS, Tenn. — People living in a South Memphis apartment complex said they've reported falling ceilings and other problems to management several times with little to no response.
Kerr Avenue LLC resident Janice Romanelao said she moved into the complex in April of last year hoping for a reset. But it has been everything but that.
“I really think it’s unfair to me as a tenant to not get the proper fair treatment as everyone else," Romanelao said.
74-year-old Charles Taylor, who's lived at the complex for 34 years, said he's not only been dealing with water pressure issues, but also a caved-in ceiling in his bathroom.
“Every problem I got, [management] won’t fix it," he said. “Leaking water upstairs down in my apartment. Had birds, a little nest in that ceiling…how they got up there, I don’t know.”
We reached out multiple times to the property's management, but we haven’t heard back yet. We also reached out to the City of Memphis Code Enforcement for answers, and we're waiting to get an update on the potential violations.
If you find yourself in a similar situation as these renters, make sure you document your complaints in writing and with pictures.
While most disputes are civil matters, utilities that aren't working and unsanitary conditions due to things like leaks are health issues that should be reported immediately.
