MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The suspect in a carjacking and child abduction that happened April 23 on Getwell Road has been arrested, according to court documents.
The Memphis Police Department said officers responded to the incident April 23, 2024, at 7:20 a.m. in the 4100 block of Getwell Road, where a vehicle with a 1-year-old child had been taken.
Investigators said the victim told police he left his Audi running as he ran inside the store. Video showed a black Chevrolet Camaro with dark tint and black wheels pulling into the parking lot and circling. A suspect in a light-colored jacket and dark pants got out of the Camaro and then took off in the Audi with the child inside.
About an hour later, police said they found both the baby and vehicle safe in the area of Outland Road and Cromwell Avenue. Police said the owner of the stolen car was issued a citation for leaving the child unattended in a vehicle.
According to court documents, the suspect, 18-year-old Marcus Nixon, was arrested on May 16 for breaking into a car. Nixon is now facing charges for vehicle burglary, theft of property $10000-$60000 and kidnapping.

MEMPHIS, TN – On April 23, 2024, at 7:50 a.m., officers responded to 4106 Getwell Road regarding a motor vehicle theft. Officers advised that a silver 2017 Audi A4 and child were taken during the incident. The victim advised that he left his vehicle running while he went inside the store. Shortly after, a black Chevrolet Camaro with dark tint and black wheels, pulled onto the parking lot and an unknown suspect wearing a light-colored jacket dark pants and white shoes, exited the passenger side of the Camaro and got into the silver Audi and drove off following the Camaro. No arrests have been made at this time. Investigators need assistance with identifying the suspects.
The child and the vehicle have been located. The child was uninjured. The male victim was issued a Misdemeanor Citation for Child Unattended in a Vehicle 55-10-803 and Unattended Vehicle 55-8-162.
