Suspect identified after 10-year-old dies in Coahoma County shooting on Christmas Eve

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office received a call Sunday night about a child being taken to a hospital in Clarksdale. The boy had been shot in Friars Point, Miss.

COAHOMA COUNTY, Miss — A 10-year-old boy is dead after getting shot on Christmas Eve in Coahoma County, Mississippi, and authorities have identified a suspect nearly a week later. 

The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call Dec. 24, 2023, around 9 p.m. about a child being taken to a hospital in Clarksdale in a personal vehicle. The boy had been shot in Friars Point. 

Deputies later learned that a 14-year-old and 10-year-old were riding around the downtown area when someone shot at their vehicle, hitting the 10-year-old boy. He later died at the Clarksdale hospital.

Friday, the Coahoma County Sheriff's Office identified Demetrice Henderson as the suspect in the 10-year-old's murder.
