MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A reward of up to $10,000 has been announced in the murder of a 22-year-old woman in downtown Memphis in August 2023. Two others were injured.
Charlisa Reed was with a friend leaving a restaurant about 3 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, when she got into her car on South Main near Pontotoc St. Investigators said a light gray Dodge Charger with tinted windows turned onto Main and someone fired shots from the passenger window at Reed’s car.
Reed died from her injuries. Two others who were shot in the same area, a man and woman, survived.
CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County said Reed’s mother Anita Wilkins posted $6,000 reward, which when combined with the $4,000 offered by the CrimeStoppers now totals $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges.
“I want to know why she was killed and who is responsible,” said Wilkins. “My daughter had just started her own business and was planning to go to barber school. I want justice for her. Too many of our young people are dying and don’t have an opportunity to live their lives.”
CrimeStoppers said Wilkins got video of the shooting from a local merchant and believes a second shooter may have been standing nearby.
Memphis Police detectives said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH (2274).
