MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 15-year-old has been charged in a rash of burglaries over three days across Shelby County, and a stash of guns were found when the teen was arrested, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation by its Burglary, Robbery, and Auto Theft (BRAT) detectives began Dec. 2, 2023, after reports of several car break-ins at the Holiday Inn on Centennial Dr. in southeast Shelby County. Investigators said 19 vehicles were broken into at that location.
Then, on Dec. 3 and 4, the SCSO said 11 auto burglaries were reported at the AgriCenter on Walnut Grove, and the Butcher Shop next door.
Detectives said they developed a 15-year-old as a suspect, who had existing warrants for theft of property from July 2023.
On Dec. 5, SCSO detectives took the teen into custody in Oakhaven. They had a search warrant for the home and said they found 10 handguns, two rifles, several magazines and ammunition, and key fobs for several unknown vehicles in the home. They said three of the firearms had been stolen. Investigators said they also found other evidence from the string of car burglaries.
The detectives also found an Infiniti sedan at the home which they said had been stolen in Germantown on Dec. 3.
