MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three people are injured after a crash involving a Memphis Police car happened Friday in northeast Memphis.
Memphis Police said they responded to a three-vehicle crash May 3 just after midnight at Appling Road and Valley Mist Drive.
A man driving a Nissan Altima was traveling south on Appling when trying to turn left onto Valley Mist. However, a MPD car heading north on Appling hit his rear, causing the first driver to spin and strike a third car — another Nissan Altima.
Three people inside the third car were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition. The police officer was not injured.
The man driving the first car was issued a traffic citation for failing to yield at an intersection. The driver of the third car was issued a citation for no driver's license and financial responsibility.
The officer's car was towed from the scene.
Memphis Police have been involved in 135 crashes in 2024 — two less than the full year of 2023.
They were at fault for 53 of those 2024 crashes.
