DESOTO COUNTY, Miss — All four inmates who "walked off" from the DeSoto County Detention Facility on Friday have been arrested as of Saturday night, according to the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department

Cesar Martinez, Juan Monsivais, Jose Vasquez and Cesar Gonzalez are now in custody, DCSO said, arrested with assistance from the Shelby County Sheriff's Fugitive Team.

All four inmates were locked up because of drug charges.

“There was a breach in our security, and we are investigating exactly what happened while we are exhausting all possible investigative leads to locate the inmates," DeSoto County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Justin Smith said on Friday. "We have a legion of detectives and fugitive personnel working on this.”

According to the Sheriff's Office, all four inmates were "trustees" of the detention facility, which gave them enhanced access to certain resources and enabled them to work jobs as cooks in the jail's kitchen.

All four inmates were cooks at the DeSoto County Detention Facility and walked out of a door while a delivery to the jail was happening, Smith said Monday.

Martinez and Vasquez were arrested while working at El Molino Restaurant in Bartlett and Monsivais and Gonzalez were arrested while walking down North Graham Street.

Smith said this is the first time inmates have escaped since 2006.

All four inmates are being held in the Shelby County Jail and are awaiting extradition to DeSoto County, where they face up to five extra years in jail on escape charges.

Officials are still investigating how long it took the jail to realize the inmates were missing and how they got to Memphis.
