MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One of the two men wanted in a shooting in Jackson, Tennessee, that left a 2-year-old dead and four injured has been captured. The second suspect remains on the run.
Jackson Police said officers and U.S. Marshals arrested DeAndre Perry on Dec. 4, 2024. He is set to be charged with murder and attempted murder in Jackson City Court.
“We would like to express our gratitude to those who have come forward with tips and information that helped advance this investigation and locating those involved," said Chief Thom Corley.
“The investigators of the Jackson Police Department did an outstanding job of quickly identifying the suspects involved in this senseless crime,” said U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller. “This morning, citizen involvement and teamwork led to the capture of DeAndre Perry. Our focus will now shift to apprehending the second suspect, Tarcus Wilkes.”
The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) was offering a reward up to $2,500 to anyone who can provide relevant information on Wilkes.
Tarcus Wilkes, 19, is wanted for six counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of felony murder, according to police.

Officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to reports of shots fired Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at around 4 p.m. in the area of Wallace Road, which is about five minutes away from Union University.
When they got there, Jackson police officials said they found five people suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside an SUV — four adults and a 2-year-old child.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, with some being airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, investigators said. The child died that night.
Officials said they identified the suspect's vehicle as a white four-door sedan using surveillance footage from the area.
Authorities captured one suspect, 19-year-old Javon Peterson, shortly after the shooting. He has since been charged.
