Baptist DeSoto Hospital shuts down for 'a short time'

Southaven Police say the hospital is no longer shut down, and there was no danger to the public.

SOUTHAVEN, Miss — On Tuesday, Dec. 17, Southaven Police said Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto was shut down for a short time.

On Tuesday evening, police said they received a call about shots fired in the area of Gallant Fox Cove and Winners Circle North. When officers arrived on the scene, they found multiple shell casings in the roadway. 

While officers were investigating the crime scene, they were informed about gunshot victims who had arrived at Baptist DeSoto, officials said.

The victims matched the description of the suspects involved in the shots fired call. Those two suspects are in stable condition at this time, officials said. 

A third suspect was found at the hospital and taken into custody. They did not sustain any injuries, police said.

Due to the nature of the call and the location of the suspects, Baptist Hospital was shut down for a short time, but it is no longer shut down as of 8:30 p.m. 

All suspects are in custody at this time. This was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public, according to officials.

Two of the suspects were identified as juveniles. One will be charged with attempt to commit murder and conspiracy to commit a crime. The second juvenile is being charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, police said.

The third suspect was identified as 18-year-old ChyTearnye Williams, who is being charged with conspiracy to commit a crime.

Police said information will be released as it comes available.
