TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — According to the Brighton Police Department, a Brighton High School (BHS) student was carjacked at gunpoint by another student on Monday, March 4.
Brighton Police said around 7:30 a.m., a Brighton Police School Resource Officer (SRO) was directing traffic at the entrance to Brighton High School when a car approached the SRO. The driver yelled “He’s got a gun” jumping out of the moving car. Then, a passenger holding a handgun got out of the car, ran towards the BHS tennis courts, then went into a large concrete culvert that runs under Hwy 51 S.
The SRO caught the suspect in the culvert and placed him under arrest, according to Brighton Police.
The victim said the suspect carjacked her at gunpoint, hit her in the head with the gun, then told her to drive, according to police.
The Brighton Police Department said the threat never entered the school building. Officers said both the suspect and victim are students at Brighton High School.
The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, carjacking, aggravated kidnapping, possession of a weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of a weapon on school property and resisting arrest, according to police.
