MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of shooting two Memphis police officers in Whitehaven back in March has been indicted on multiple charges related to this shooting, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Charles Williams II is charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault, according to the TBI. He was also seriously injured in the incident.

On Wednesday, the TBI said they presented evidence to a Shelby County Grand Jury who returned indictments charging Williams with two counts each of criminal attempt-second degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

On Friday morning, the TBI said that Williams was taken into custody.

The TBI said this was done with the assistance of the United States Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force as well as the Fugitive Apprehension Teams of the Memphis Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

He is currently booked into the Shelby County jail on $800,000 bond, according to the TBI. In April, Williams faced a judge for his arraignment

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, MPD officers responded to a call at a convenience store along East Raines about an armed individual. The TBI said the two responding officers encountered the suspect outside of the business, and the situation escalated into a brief foot chase.

TBI investigators said during the chase, in the 1200 block of East Raines Road near Faronia Road, shots were fired and both the officers and Williams were shot.

MPD said both officers and the suspect were taken to Regional One in critical condition. Memphis police said both officers have since been released from the hospital.
