Boy reportedly accidentally shot by another boy, say Memphis Police

Memphis Police said they responded to the shooting just after 1 p.m. Thursday. They're still investigating what led to the shooting.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police said a young child is recovering after reportedly being accidentally shot by another child.

MPD officers responded to the shooting call on East Belle Haven Road just after 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023. They found a young boy shot, and he was rushed to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition, and later upgraded to non-critical.

According to the MPD report, a woman who was not at the scene at the time of the shooting had left a male friend to watch over the boy who was shot and another young boy. Another woman who was there told investigators she was in another room with her daughter when she heard a gunshot.

Police said the woman at the scene told them the male friend then knocked on her door and told her one young boy had shot the other boy in the arm.

Investigators said when the other woman returned home, she told them the male friend had taken off in her mother's car.

MPD said the Department of Children's Services was contacted.

So far, no charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
