MEMPHIS, Tenn — The Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said a child is recovering after being accidentally shot while his father was cleaning a gun.
The SCSO said deputies responded to a shooting about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, in the 4500 block of Hansberry Dr. in the Southwind Lake Apartments.
They said a 'small child', a boy, was apparently shot, and he was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in non-critical condition.
Friday, investigators updated, saying the boy was five years old and had apparently been shot in the shoulder while his dad was cleaning a gun. They said the boy is recovering.
The SCSO has not said if the father will face charges.
