Coldwater, Mississippi, Assistant Police Chief out of jail after being charged with domestic violence

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office said Walter French was released on his own recognizance after turning himself in on the charges.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Coldwater, Mississippi, Assistant Police Chief is out of jail on his own recognizance after being arrested and charged with domestic violence in Tunica County.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office said the night of May 31, 2024, a 22-year-old woman called the department saying she had been assaulted by 40-year-old Walter French in Tunica.

Investigators said French was not at the scene when they arrived, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The sheriff’s office said French turned himself in on Thursday, June 6 and was booked into the jail. He was later released on his own recognizance.

Coldwater's Police Chief told ABC24 that French is currently on administrative leave.
