MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy said a court has granted emergency writs in the cases of two recent shooting suspects released without bail.

In a statement to Facebook, Mulroy's office said a hearing is set for Dec. 13. 2024.

Tyreese Earnest, 18, is one of three men charged in a shooting that happened at around 4 a.m. on Oct. 30, 2024, in the FedEx Hub parking lot. He is charged with attempted second-degree murder, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and vandalism.

According to court records, during a hearing on Nov. 12, Judge Bill Anderson reduced Earnest’s bond from $200,000 to ROR (Released on Own Recognizance).

The other man is charged in connection with a standoff Nov. 11, 2024, in Whitehaven. Police said he had fired at officers before the standoff began. He faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and evading arrest. He was released ROR a week later after a ruling by Judge Anderson.

“We’re glad the court granted the writ and acknowledged the legal error in the General Sessions court decision. This is a useful clarification which we hope will impact future bail decisions. While we were hoping for a hearing date sooner than December 13, we’re ready to move forward to further public safety in these cases.”
