2 injured after crash led to shooting in Cherokee neighborhood

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are injured after Memphis Police said a crash led to a shooting Tuesday in the Cherokee neighborhood. 

MPD officers responded to the incident Oct. 22, 2024, just before 1 a.m. at Prescott Road and Cherokee Boulevard, where they found a man shot twice in his left arm and shoulder. First responders took him to a hospital in critical condition. 

A witness told investigators he saw the man in a gray 2007 Nissan Titan run a red light and crash into a silver 2003 Infiniti vehicle, according to the police report. The witness told police he saw two other men pull up in a gold older-model Mercedes Benz. 

While the witness was helping the person inside of the Infiniti vehicle, he said he heard about 10 to 15 gunshots. 

The witness told investigators he saw the man from the Nissan fire shots at the two other men from the Mercedes, who returned fire, hitting the first man in his side. 

According to the police report, the witness saw the man from the Nissan struck in the side and one of the other two men struck as well. 

Police said that a second man arrived at a hospital with a wound in his chest. This man told investigators he saw the accident at Prescott Road and Cherokee Boulevard and tried to help when a man in a silver Infiniti fired shots at him, according to the police report. 

The man riding the Nissan told investigators that after the crash two men approached him and began patting his pockets before firing shots at him, the police report said. The man also said he did not fire any shots nor owns a gun.

Officers found a black and chrome handgun in the grass at the intersection of the crime scene. 

No arrests or charges have been mentioned at this time.
