SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — UPDATE 11/5/2021 - A Shelby County Grand Jury has indicted a local man in a deadly shooting in April of this year. The Shelby County DA's office said he was caught after he went back to the scene, swarming with deputies, to get a cell phone he dropped.
Jeffery Q. Boyle, 31, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to sell and deliver, and tampering with evidence. He is free on $125,000 bond.
The shooting happened April 12, 2021, in a subdivision near East Holmes Road and Riverdale Road. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Boyle shot 30-year-old Reginald Palmer Jr. in the 7200 block of Blue Grouse Lane.
They said Palmer drove away with a bullet in his side, and told his girlfriend, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, to call 911. As he tried to get away, investigators said his car hit a curb and then stopped on the sidewalk in front of a house on Easterly Lane. Palmer died at the scene.
Deputies said while they were there, Boyle returned to the shooting location. They said he grabbed a cell phone he had dropped, and then ran away. He was arrested later that day at a home in Cordova where deputies also found the cell phone, a pistol, and seven baggies of marijuana.
