Man injured after argument leads to shooting in downtown Memphis

Memphis Police said the shooting happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday, after a man got into an argument with a group of men.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is recovering in the hospital Sunday after an early morning shooting stemmed from an argument in downtown Memphis, blocks away from where another deadly shooting took place on Beale Street.

Memphis Police said they responded to the shooting scene at S. Main Street and Pontotoc Ave. around 4:20 a.m. Sunday.

Officers at the scene found as many as 18 shell casings on the ground, and later found out the shooting victim was recovering at Methodist Central hospital.

Officers arrived to the hospital and interviewed the victim, who told them he was standing in front of the Old Dominick Distillery on S. Front Street with his girlfriend, when he started arguing with a group of men in a silver two-door Infiniti.

The victim said in the midst of the argument three men got out of the car and began firing shots at him, with one of them hitting him in the leg.

A woman standing nearby told Memphis Police she overheard the argument and saw the shooting, prompting her to take the victim to the hospital by private car.
