HERNANDO, Miss — The FBI is currently investigating a shooting which took place at a Super 8 Hotel on the 2400 block of Sloans Way in Hernando.
The shooting occurred in the late morning on Friday, Oct. 4. One person was killed during the incident and no FBI agents were injured, according to the bureau.
Almost 12 hours after the shooting, nearly 20 FBI agents were at the scene and at the entrance of the hotel. An ABC24 crew on scene saw that agents gathered what appeared to be evidence and placed it in bags around 9 p.m. There was also huddled conversation between agents.
Tony Stanton’s business neighbors the Super 8 by Wyndham Hotel. He said officers and agents began flooding the scene and initially told his colleagues to go inside.
"We had guys inside and outside the building...it just happened so fast, and then it was over," he said. "There was a little bit of hollering and some shots, and it was done and over."
The identity of the person who died in the shooting has not been released.
FBI’s Jackson Field Office said in a statement that no special agents were injured in the incident.
Stanton said officers acted very quickly to make sure the neighboring businesses were secure.
"I didn’t really feel like anyone was in danger except for whoever they were after," he said.
