MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former Shelby County deputy jailer will spend more than a year in federal prison for arranging for drugs to be smuggled into jail.
Kimberly Price, 31, was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. She will also serve two years of probation once she is released.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI Tarnished Badge Task Force began investigating Price in September 2020 on allegations she was smuggling drugs into the Shelby County Correctional Center for inmates. Prosecutors said an inmate working with investigators asked Price to buy drugs that would be smuggled in by someone else, and that Price agreed.
They said on Oct. 16, 2020, Price delivered a bag of cocaine to the cooperating third party in exchange for $1,000. Prosecutors said on Nov. 4, 2020, she met the person again and gave them fentanyl pills in exchange for $1,300.
Price pleaded guilty on May 4, 2023, and was sentenced Nov. 8.
