Frida's employees robbed at gunpoint | MPD searching for suspects

MPD said it is unclear how much money was stolen. The suspects fled northbound on Evergreen St. driving a tan Ford Fusion.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) is looking for two men who they said robbed employees of a midtown restaurant at gunpoint Monday.

MPD officers responded to a robbery call at Frida's Restaurante Mexicano in the 1700 block of Madison Ave. in midtown Memphis just before 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023.

According to MPD, the employees told investigators they were going through their morning opening routine, and had the restaurant's back doors open while preparing to receive truck deliveries.

Video showed two men rush in through the back doors, and holding a gun on the employees. MPD said the suspects pushed the employees through the restaurant.

One female employee was forced, at gunpoint, to the cash register, MPD said. Investigators said when she couldn't open it, one of the suspects yanked the case out of the register system, and both the suspects took off.

Police said the suspects got away with about $300. MPD said the suspects took off northbound on Evergreen St. in a tan, late-model Ford Fusion.
