18-year Germantown Police Officer arrested for DUI

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — An off-duty officer with the Germantown Police Department was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, , reckless driving, and possession of a weapon while Intoxicated among other charges on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024.

At around 5 p.m., a Germantown Police Officer saw a vehicle speeding westbound down Poplar Ave. before colliding with another vehicle, according to a press release from the Germantown Police Department. The driver of that vehicle was revealed to be of-duty Germantown Police Officer, Lowell Young. No one was injured in the crash.

Young was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to BAC, reckless driving, possession of a weapon while intoxicated, open container, expired license plate, public intoxication, and following too closely. He was booked into the Germantown Jail and later released on a $5000 bond.

Young has been employed with the department for 18 years, according to the press release. He has been suspended without pay pending an internal investigation into this matter. There were no injuries related to the crash. 

Germantown Police Department is currently investigating this crash, which is reportedly related to other crashes in the Collierville area, according to officials.
