MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 10-year-old girl is injured after a shooting took place Tuesday in Castalia Heights, near Magnolia Elementary School.
Memphis Police responded to the shooting Dec. 3, 2024, just before 1:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Wabash Avenue, where officers found a mother on a couch holding her daughter child, who had been shot in the leg.
The girl told investigators that she and others inside the house had heard several gunshots outside, then one bullet went through the front door, hitting her in the leg, according to a police report. That's when the mother said the girl ran into her bedroom and woke the mother up. She then took her daughter to the couch and told someone else to call the police.
There were six other people inside the house during the time of the shooting, according to the police report. No one else was hurt.
The daughter was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in non-critical condition.
When police checked the area, they were not able to find any shell casings. No suspect information has been released as of yet.
An investigation is underway.
