Mid-South family searches for Jerriny Caples' killer — two years later

Jerriny Caples father — Jerry Caples — feels like he's getting close but wants the communities help looking for the person responsible for his daughter's death.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — The search for the person who killed Jerriny Caples continues two years later. Caples was shot and killed in November 2021. The Memphis Police Department released surveillance video of a suspect, but the person involved still has not been identified.

Caples' family is using information from the scene to narrow down the search.

“She was found in the back of [her] vehicle slumped over,” her father, Jerry Caples said. “She had been shot once in the head.”

Surveillance video showed the suspect leaving the scene.

“The murderer was picked up by a door cam leaving the vehicle you know, so it kinda led me to believe the person might stay in the area,” Caples said.

He still searches the area frequently. It’s a tragedy no one in the family can wrap their head around.

Candace Parker is Jerriny's sister.

“[She was] loving; kind, sweet — don’t bother nobody,” Parker said. “For them to take her life for nothin, it’s hurtin' me; it’s hurtin' my dad, it’s hurtin' her mom.”

Jerriny’s other sister Lamesheia Sims describes the incident as "a senseless act of violence."

“That’s all it was, and I hate that,” she said.

This one act of violence left every one of Jerriny's family members searching for closure.

“I’m not gonna rest; I'm not gunna sleep, I’m not gunna stop screaming 'justice for Jerriny,'” Parker said.

Jerry Caples believes someone did see what happened to his daughter.
