MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Lafayette County, Mississippi, man is charged with capital murder in the death of an infant in late March.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said Matthew Brown was arrested April 4, 2024, in the death of the little boy.
Investigators said deputies responded to a call March 22 on County Road 520 about an unresponsive infant. They said deputies, EMS, and the firs department began life-saving measures when they arrived, and the boy was taken to Baptist Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators did not release information on what had happened that led to the child’s death, but that the investigation led to Brown’s arrest.
“Our hearts go out to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sheriff Joey East in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case and will continue to work tirelessly to bring closure to the family.”
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to come forward and contact the department.
