MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The President of LeMoyne-Owen College confirmed to ABC24 he was one of the latest victims of a carjacking in Memphis.
Pastor Christopher Davis was pumping gas Wednesday night, Nov. 15, 2023, at the Murphy USA in the 7700 block of Winchester Road when Memphis Police said two men robbed him at gunpoint.
According to the police report, the men demanded his keys, phones, and wallet, then took off in his 2018 Porsche Cayman, followed by a red four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu.
Memphis police said a few hours later, early the morning of Nov. 16, investigators responded to an armed person call in the 2700 block of Jolson Ave., where they said the stolen was being tracked via phone. They said officers then spotted the vehicle on Pendleton near Jolson, and after a short chase, it stopped at the El Dorado Apartments on Ketchum.
They said two suspects took off and one boy was taken into custody at the apartments, but later released without a charge. They said one of the victim’s missing phones was found during a search of the home, along with a gun, a phone belonging to one of the suspects, and clothes worn by one of the suspects.
“I'm no different than any other Memphian. I'm always concerned about what goes on in our city, but it doesn’t change the fact I love Memphis, I believe in Memphis and I'm still ten toes down, all about Memphis,” Pastor Davis told ABC24 after the carjacking.
