BRANDON, Miss — A Madison Police officer and the man who had a shootout with Brandon, Mississippi police officers in a morning standoff on Thursday, June 1 were both killed, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (MBI) said.
One Brandon Police Department (BPD) officer was also shot and injured in the standoff, but survived, MBI said.
According to MBI, police had ongoing encounters with the suspect who was killed in the standoff.
BPD initially responded to a hostage call at a home in the Crossgates neighborhood in Brandon Thursday morning.
When officers arrived at the home, a man who was barricaded inside the residence started shooting at police. One BPD officer was shot during the initial shootout.

MBI said in a press release at 7:35 a.m. that the suspect remained barricaded in the Crossgates neighborhood home with unknown injuries.
Later in the morning at 10:28 a.m., MBI issued a second press release informing that a second officer from Madison Police Department (MPD) was shot and killed in the ongoing standoff while trying to enter the home where the subject was barricaded.
MBI said the suspect was also killed during the back-and-forth gun fire.
