MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who claimed to be a lawyer is now facing the law himself.

According to Shelby County affidavits of complaint, victims told the Shelby County Sheriff's Office that Glenis Campbell, 57, had told them he could represent them as their civil attorney for a case in Shelby County, Tennessee, in Dec. 2021. They said that they paid him around $28,000, and he would only accept cash and blank money orders.

After they became suspicious and warned officials, a warrant went out for his arrest.

In July 2022, he posed as an attorney and scammed another victim out of $7,600. Officials said he asked for money for court costs, legal fees and numerous other expenses. When the victims discovered the scam, officials said Campbell did not respond to them and did not refund the money.

In Oct. 2023, Memphis Police officers responded to a call from another victim, who said Campbell scammed them out of $3,240 to represent his case in Mississippi. They said as the court case neared, Campbell cut off all contact with them.

According to officials, Campbell was also arrested in 2008 for impersonating a lawyer.

On Feb. 15, 2024, Campbell was arrested by the Memphis Police Department (MPD). He is currently staying in 201 Poplar and is due in court on Feb. 16. He is facing three counts of impersonating a licensed professional, one count of theft of property $2,500 to $10,000 and one count of theft of property $10,000 to $60,000.
