TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A woman and man are charged after an early morning shooting occurred along Highway 51 in Tipton County Friday.
Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley said his deputies responded to the shooting Oct. 20, 2023, on Highway 51 by Jack Bennett Road around 7:45 a.m. Friday.
A silver Chevrolet Malibu and a red Ford Mustang were driving northbound when Beasley said the suspects in the Malibu began shooting at the Mustang. The Malibu was last seen turning around and driving southbound.
When Covington Police found the Mustang, they notified the Tipton County Sheriff's Office and found the car had been hit by gunfire.
Detectives identified the suspects as 21-year-old Dalton Richard and 21-year-old Kassie Carpenter, both from Tipton County.
Richard turned himself in to authorities Saturday and posted a $50,000 bond Tuesday. He will appear in General Sessions court Oct. 31.
Carpenter turned herself in to authorities Tuesday morning at the Tipton County jail, where she was charged with accessory after the fact. She later posted a $5,000 bond and is now set to appear in General Sessions court Nov. 3.
"First and foremost we want the public to know this was not a case of road rage," said Beasley. "This shooting was a targeted incident where the suspects and victims know one another and likely stems from a past relationship. No matter what the reason is, it is a stupid and reckless decision that put the victims and other innocent people at risk of death or serious injury."
