Man indicted in crash that killed two, including his 2-year-old son

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — UPDATE 11/5/2021 - A Shelby County Grand Jury indicted a man accused of crashing after speeding on I-240 in midtown Memphis, killing two of his passengers – one of whom was his 2-year-old son.

The Shelby County DA's office said Kenneth Orange Jr., 33, was indicted on felony charges of vehicular homicide involving intoxication over .08, recklessness and drugs (cocaine); aggravated assault; DUI involving intoxication, drugs (cocaine), child accompaniment, and death; and reckless driving. He is being held on $200,000 bond.

Investigators said just before 5 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2021, Orange was driving northbound on I-240 near Lamar Avenue. Witnesses said he was speeding and swerving in and out of traffic. They said Orange lost control, struck a concrete barrier, spun onto the road’s grassy shoulder, hit a large metal sign post, slid backward, and slammed into a tree.

Two passengers in the backseat- 3-year-old Kennise Orange and 20-year-old Toronzo Parrish. A 22-year-old man in the front seat and Orange were injured.

Investigators said they found open containers of alcohol in the driver’s area of the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix.

3/1/2021 - On Sunday evening, February 28th, Memphis Police were called to a crash near 1101 Ryder Avenue. There was only one vehicle, but it was believed that it actually happened on the interstate.

One adult was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately a child and a second adult died from their injuries.

Monday, police arrested 32-year-old Kenneth Orange and charged him for the accident.
