Grand jury to hear case against man arrested for drag racing during Orange Mound mass shooting

Police said he caused $19,000 in damage to Mound Park's basketball court.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Shelby County grand jury will hear the case against a Memphis man who was arrested for doing spin outs the night of a mass shooting at an Orange Mound block party on April 20.

Taryll Cunningham was charged with drag racing, vandalism, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment. The case was sent to the grand jury on Aug. 29, 2024.

Cunningham was also indicted previously in a separate case involving reckless driving and theft charges. He is currently out of jail on a total of $125,000 bond.

Memphis Police said Cunningham caused $19,000 in damage to Mound Park's basketball court, and MPD said they have video to prove it.

However, police still have made no arrests in connection with the two people killed and several others wounded during that block party.
