MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teen who was critically injured after a drive-by shooting on Union and Kimbrough in early February is dead, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD officers said they responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Kimbrough Pl. around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024. They said they found someone had fired into a gold car, and the driver was struck. Investigators said the driver, a 17-year-old, was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

Police said two passengers in the car at the time were not hurt. They said nearby Kimbrough Tower employees rushed to help the victim, who had just left school and was going home.

Investigators said witnesses told them the shooter had a mask on, and they may have been driving a black car.
