MPD asks public for help in finding suspects after shooting at ATC Fitness gym in East Memphis leaves man hurt

The Memphis Police Department to the shooting call Friday, June 7, just before 6 a.m. at Poplar Avenue and Perkins Extended.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is seriously hurt after a shooting at a gym happened Friday morning in East Memphis. Now, Memphis Police have asked the public to help find the suspects.

The Memphis Police Department to the shooting call June 7, 2024, just before 6 a.m. at Poplar Avenue and Perkins Extended, where officers found a man who had been shot. He was taken to Regional One Health in critical condition and has since been treated and released.

Memphis Police said the shooting took place at 4682 Spottswood Avenue and that four suspects were involved. A dark gray Honda sedan with a possible drive-out tag approached the victim's vehicle before the incident took place, police said. 

The first suspect was a passenger wearing black hoodie and black pants, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD). The second suspect was wearing a gray hoodie, black pants and a gray face mask, MPD said. 

The third suspect was wearing a black hoodie with white designs on the back and black pants, according to MPD. He also had a mounted weapon. The fourth suspect was the driver, but MPD did not release specific information about this person.

When an ABC24 photographer arrived in the area, he saw an ATC Fitness center damaged with broken glass windows. Investigators confirmed that the shooting happened in the area of the gym.
